You can prepare this classic dessert in advance, then keep in the freezer until you’re ready to bake – just give it an extra 15-20 minutes in the oven.
Ingredients1kg Bramley apples, peeled, cored and cut into chunks
1½ tsp ground cinnamon
½ tsp ground ginger
75g caster sugar
½ lemon, juice
225g plain flour
180g Anchor® Butter, cut into cubes and chilled
100g soft light brown sugar
Directions1. Preheat the oven to 200C gas mark 6. Mix together the apples, spices, caster sugar and lemon juice and tip into a 1.5-2 litre ovenproof dish.
2. Meanwhile, make the crumble. Place the flour and butter in a large bowl. Using your fingertips, rub the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse breadcrumbs. Stir in the light brown sugar.
3. Spread the crumble evenly over the fruit and bake in the oven for 30-35 minutes. Cool for 5 minutes before serving with custard or Anchor® Real Dairy Cream.
